Giti TVET: A Rising Hub for Skills Development in Gicumbi

In Rwanda’s ongoing efforts to promote quality education and youth empowerment, the GITI Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) School is emerging as a model institution. Located in Gicumbi District, this newly established school is already changing lives by offering hands-on skills in high-demand trades.

Currently, GITI TSS is home to 111 students enrolled in two core specializations: Construction and Modern Automotive Mechanics. The school’s modern facilities and practical approach are designed to align with Rwanda’s national agenda of producing job-ready graduates and reducing youth unemployment.

In addition to full-time programs, GITI TSS plans to roll out short-term training opportunities for local youth. These courses are expected to equip young people with skills that enable them to start small businesses or find employment, ultimately fostering economic self-reliance at the grassroots level.

Established in partnership with the Ministry in charge of Emergency Management (MINEMA), the school has already completed its first phase of construction. This includes fully equipped classrooms and workshops, dining room and dormitories. The second phase set to begin soon will expand the campus with new teacher accommodation, administrative offices, sports grounds, and a multi-purpose hall for events and recreation.

GITI TSS is more than just a school; it’s a hub for opportunity, skill-building, and long-term community development. As Rwanda continues to prioritize technical and vocational education, schools like GITI TVET are laying the foundation for a skilled, innovative, and self-sufficient generation.
