Rehabilitation Works at Ruvune Health Center Advance to 80%

A delegation from the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) visited Ruvune Health Center to assess ongoing rehabilitation works aimed at improving healthcare services for local communities.

The project is funded through the Basket Funding for Pro-Poor Development (PPD Basket), which supports investments in health infrastructure to enhance access and quality of medical services for residents of Ruvune, Bwisige, Rukomo, and Muko sectors.

Authorities say the works have now reached approximately 80 percent completion, marking a significant milestone in restoring and upgrading the facility.

Nzabonimpa Emmanuel, Mayor of Gicumbi District, highlighted the project’s importance for the population.

“The rehabilitation of Ruvune Health Center is a crucial step in strengthening healthcare services for our residents. Once completed, this facility will greatly improve working conditions for health professionals and expand access to quality care for thousands of people in the surrounding sectors,” he said.

The upgrade addresses previous challenges, including aging infrastructure, limited space, and the growing number of patients seeking medical attention. Once finalized, the facility is expected to serve more than 21,990 residents.

A representative of Agence Française de Développement (AFD) said the project reflects the institution’s commitment to improving living conditions for vulnerable communities.

“Investing in health infrastructure is key to ensuring communities have reliable access to quality healthcare. Through the PPD Basket initiative, we are proud to support projects like Ruvune Health Center, which will have a lasting impact on people’s well-being,” the representative said.

During the visit, the AFD delegation reviewed construction progress and held discussions with district officials and implementing partners to ensure the remaining works are completed on schedule and to required standards.

The rehabilitation of Ruvune Health Center forms part of broader initiatives aimed at strengthening the health system and improving the well-being of residents across Rwanda.
